Schoolchildren in Buckingham have been doing their bit to show solidarity with the people of Ukraine by taking part in a special awareness day.
Pupils and staff at George Grenville Academy held a day of fundraising and other events in aid of the Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) appeal for the victims of the war in Ukraine.
Raising money was a big focus and the children donated to come to school in non-uniform, with many of them wearing the blue and yellow of the Ukrainian flag.
The fundraising efforts were a great success with staff, pupils and their families raising £434.50 in total.
As part of the day, students were also encouraged to share their thoughts and feelings about what is happening in Ukraine and think of ways that others can help.
A special assembly was held, giving information and a chance for the pupils to be part of group reflection.
The nursery pupils also joined in on the day, decorating Ukrainian flags during their creative play.
Deputy headteacher Caroline Ryan, who organised the event, said: “It was an important event at George Grenville Academy – not just raising vital funds for the DEC Ukraine appeal, but also to raise some awareness among our children about what is going on.
“Through events like this, the children are able to see themselves as part of a wider community.”
